In Josee’s Words

“It’s funny how fate pushed me where I belong in life, because when I think back, I actually tried my hand at photography twice when I was very young and both times felt perhaps it wasn’t my calling. I’ll always remember the time I spent an hour orchestrating my dolls & bears in front of a carefully hung sheet in hopes of arriving at the perfect portrait of my most prized possessions. I took the shot with a Polaroid cam and was horrified at the harsh light whiting out the faces of my little friends and the deep shadow cast behind them. I abandoned the whole deal. I must have been no older than ten years old. In high school, I applied for the job of photographer for the yearbook, and my artsy self was passed up for the girl who had the photos with the most head-counts. I hadn’t given up completely when I saw a job opening for Sears Portrait Studio. Who would a thought a job like that would propel me where I am today?

Sometimes I’m embarrassed at my roots in this business, but I can’t not be thankful for the experience that working in a revolving door studio gave me. Heck, even the years of waitressing, as painful as they were, also taught me so many things about working with people, relationships, and how to be intuitive & generous with my heart and time.

It was all worth it, because today I spend my days with little wonders and expecting couples that positively glow, and I’m always smiling. And the best part of doing what I love, is how happy it makes my clients; it’s really a gift from the universe to be able to do something that delivers this much joy.”
